Popular 2D barcodes, such as QR code, Data Matrix, & Microsoft’s HCCB, have already been heavily adopted by mobile users globally. Typically 2D barcodes served the purpose for proving immediate online information. Consumers will now have the luxury of utilizing this technology across all purchasing locations.
Traditional 1D barcodes provide basic product information due to restrictions. Also, susceptibility to damage occurs quite often making purchasing rather frustrating. On the other hand 2D barcodes provide a maximum of 7,089 numeric and 4,296 alphanumeric characters. Essentially it is a link to a URL which then provides extensive information for the potential consumer.
