introduction:
Cancer is a kind of genetic disease which is caused by the abnormal growth of cells that tend to proliferate in an uncontrolled way. It was caused by the mutation of the genes which involved in the cell growth and proliferation. Many genes were deregulated in different kinds of tumors and were thought that may relate to the cause or origination of cancers. Thus we previously constructed the Human Potential Tumor Associated Antigen database (HPtaa)in order to provide the deregulated genes in different kind of tumors. Expression data from different platforms such as microarray, EST and SAGE were integrated to analysis the expression pattern of tumor genes and greatly facilitate the identification of the Tumor-associated antigens (TAA).
Recently, abnormal expression of different class of non-protein coding RNAs (ncRNA), especially the microRNAs (miRNAs) was suggests to involved in the cancer formation. microRNAs are a class of small noncoding RNAs of about 18-23 nt in length. They regulate mRNA expression through translational repression or mRNA cleavage by binding to the 3'UTR of mRNAs. Thousands of miRNAs have been found in different species from plants to mammals, they were believed to regulate many different biological processes such as cell growth, proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Many of them can act as oncogenes or tumor suppressor genes which refer to "oncomirs". Many miRNAs are deregulated in different tumors. More and more methods have been used to investigate the expression pattern of miRNAs in normal tissues and tumors and large amount of expression data have been published, however, there is no accessiable plantform that provide the compresensive expression informantion of miRNAs in cancers so far. As the sister system of HPtaa, here we provide an novel integrated database: human potential tumor associated miRNA (hptam), which provide deregulated expression information of human miRNAs in various types of cancer.
Hptam is a brand-new database about the expression information of deregulated miRNAs in human cancers. So far it contains 345 human miRNAs expressed in 9 different cancer tissues, and 28 cell lines. All the expression information was obtained from Significance Analysis of Microarray (SAM) analysis of current available expression profiles of miRNAs in different tissues. All the data is freely available to academic users. we hope this database could help with the process of cancer immunome identification, thus help with improving the diagnosis and treatment of human cancers.
